Innovation & Biorefinery in Seafood Production and Processing

The theme of this year's conference is "Innovation in Biorefinery and Seafood Production and Processing". We invite submissions under the following six important research areas in this blue biotechnology sector:

  • Micro and macro algae
  • Sustainable aquaculture techniques and its impact on product quality
  • Innovative seafood processing and quality
  • Seafood safety and authenticity
  • Blue biotechnology for food and non-food
  • Seafood consumption and consumers

Session 1: Micro and macro algae

This session will focus on the opportunities and challenges for the production of micro- and macro algae within the framework of the blue biotechnology sector. Biorefinery of micro- and macro algae, micro- and macro algae as a food source and feed source in relation to quality.

Session 2: Sustainable aquaculture techniques and its impact on product quality

This session will focus on innovative aquaculture techniques (feed, husbandry management, production systems) and their effect on product composition, product quality, sensory quality, etc..

Session 3: Innovative seafood processing and quality

Innovative seafood processing techniques, extended shell-life technologies, new packaging materials and optimizing seafood quality throughout the value chain will be discussed in this session.

Session 4: Seafood safety and authenticity

This session will cover a broad range of topics dealing with seafood safety (parasites, contaminants, biotoxins, bacteria and viruses) in respect to human consumers. New techniques to detect seafood fraud, regulatory and industrial perspectives on the authenticity will be presented in this session.

Session 5: Blue biotechnology for food and non-food

This session will deal with bioactive compounds in seafood and bycatch and the utilization thereof. Abstracts about seafood wellness products, nutraceuticals, antioxidative- and antimicrobial properties of seafood products, immunostimulatory effects of seafood product and biorefinery are welcomed.

Session 6 : Seafood consumption and consumers

This session will cover consumer perspectives and attitudes towards seafood products, marketing and market drivers and new product development.
